Are Christians fed up of giving?

As a promoter of the Gospel, it can be very frustrating as we have a desire to make an impact in our cities by proclaiming the Gospel in the dark places of our communities.  However, we face a lack of support from Christians both in turning up to these events and supporting them financially.

1nC Promotions hosted a Gospel music event on Bank Holiday Sunday August 29th at The Living Room in Manchester.  We had made the decision to make this a free event as many gospel events that we have been to recently have been poorly supported.  We said that entry would be free with the flyer or £3 without.  To our amazement, the event was almost full to capacity with over 200 people!  Most of them came with a flyer thus allowing them free entrance.  Therefore, the full cost of the event (hire of the venue, PA and equipment, advertising, flyers etc)  was covered by 1nC Promotions.  During the event, we asked if people would like to make a donation towards the costs of putting on the event.  We raised a grand total of £28!  But many people loved the event and we were blessed to see people enjoying themselves and praising the Lord in the most established secular venue in the city centre.  The feedback has been fantastic and many are asking when the next one is. That is extremely encouraging.

1nC Promotions met with the Manager of The Living Room on Tuesday August 31st to discuss the possibility of using the venue in the next couple of months. With hosting events in these kinds of venues, its very difficult to convince them to host a Christian event, particularly if you don't want alcohol served. You usually have to agree to a minimum spend over the bar (usually £1000).  God granted us favour and we managed to get them to waiver it and He also managed to create a problem with the drinks licence so they couldn't sell alcohol anyway.  However, we were unfortunately told today that will not be able to use this venue again as the takings on the night was only £250 even though there were over 200 people there!  Were people not thirsty even though it was full and hot in the venue???

So... people didn't pay to get in, they didn't buy a drink and they didn't want to leave a donation for the amazing night that they had just experienced... for free!

In order to make an impact in our cities, and for Christian events like Summer Ends to happen again, Christians have to be challenged to sow, to show support, to turn up to events, to buy a drink, buy product from the artists, or give a donation so that they can continue to go to a safe place in the city centre where the Gospel can be preached.

In order to see the Gospel preached and grow in our society in this way, we have to see change.  Although we are prepared to organise another event, like most promoters, finance of these events is always the issue, and also finding a venue that will host Christian events.

The Bible says that "you reap what you sow".  What are you sowing into?  Enlarging God's territory?
